Mr. de Milo was a teacher at Meriwether Prep school, teaching English. He instructed the class to read The Lord of the Flies, setting up a final exam for the students in which they all went into the "break yard" for a period with no adult supervision, which would mimic the scenarios in The Lord of the Flies.
